About Us

Shiraoka was set up in 2008 by Gareth Spiers of Taiseidokai.

What Does Shiraoka Mean?

Shiraoka means Whitehill after the area the Dojo was first located before moving to the Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex.

Who Teaches Us?

Gareth Spiers, Sandan, is the Dojo Leader and instructor. Gareth was the Silver Medalist in the 2008 and 2009 Thistle Cup.

We are also taught by coaches from Taisedokai including David Buchannan, Sandan and Gerry Kincaid, Godan and National Level Coach.

Taiseidokai?

Taiseidokai is an old and established Kendo club based in the west-end of Glasgow. Gareth Spiers studies there. More info can be found here.

National Affiliation

Shiraoka is a member of the British Kendo Assciation, the recognised national governing body for kendo in the UK.
